Zeus vs Eclipse: Which New MMORPG Fits You (+3 Side Games)

Zeus launched on August 26 and Eclipse opens on September 10 at noon KST. Both are MMORPGs, so running both is a losing game. Here is what each one is, and three games that fit around one of them.

Zeus vs Eclipse: Which New MMORPG Fits You (+3 Side Games)

Korean mobile MMORPG news this September comes down to two titles. Zeus: God of Arrogance, published by Com2uS, went live on August 26. Eclipse: The Awakening from Smilegate opens on September 10 at noon Korea time. This post lays out what each one is and who it suits, based on launch coverage and Korean reviews, and then picks three games to run alongside one of them.

The picks are chosen on time, not on fun. An MMORPG eats session time, so whatever sits next to it has to be a game that does not. Two of the three are idle games and one is a three-minute puzzle. The second pick is free but comes with a condition: it wants to be opened twice a day.

Zeus: God of Arrogance, out since August 26

Developed by Aberton and published by Com2uS. It is built on Unreal Engine 5 and set in Theia, a reimagined Greek-mythology world cracked open by Zeus's own arrogance, where the player proves themselves as a "vessel of the gods". It runs on PC and mobile. The current listing is on the Korean store; check availability in your region before planning around it.

  • Who it is for: players who want the familiar Korean mobile MMORPG structure. Two Korean reviews (PNN, SmartBiz) landed on the same line: solid fundamentals, not much that separates it from existing mobile MMORPGs.
  • First 10 minutes: pick one of four classes, Warrior, Rogue, Mage or Paragon, and the main quest carries you to level 20 quickly. The difficulty climbs after that.
  • Monetization: a monthly pass at 9,900 won (about 7 USD) and step-up packages in the 200,000-won range. One reviewer called the math "easy to calculate". For a free player that means accepting a gap in field-hunting efficiency instead.
  • The downside: per the reviews, melee classes are at a disadvantage in shared hunting grounds, and specialty classes like the Artisan do not show much early on. Late-game competitive content, guild raids and the Colosseum, arrives between September and October.
  • Reception: three rounds of character-name reservation all closed early, and the game reached No. 1 on both major Korean app stores right after launch.

Eclipse: The Awakening, September 10 at noon KST

Smilegate's new title. The release date was confirmed on August 7 and the opening hour was fixed at noon on September 3. A launch livestream runs on the official YouTube channel on September 5 at 8 pm KST, five days before the doors open.

  • Who it is for: people who want an MMORPG without the feeling that they have to stay logged in. The game calls itself "MMOLite": keep the growth and the competition, lower the play burden.
  • Structure: a Sanctuary that grows over time, combat built from weapon choice and skill fusion, and PvP that is opt-in rather than forced. The setting is Ederion, a world flourishing under divine blessing, and Ortea, its shadow side.
  • Platform: PC and mobile cross-platform, with up to two clients running at once.
  • Pre-launch: the August character pre-creation event closed early on all 24 servers.
  • What to check: "lower burden" gets judged in the first week. How many hours of growth the Sanctuary stores per day, and whether auto-hunting keeps going while you are logged out. Those two numbers decide the real burden.

Can you run two MMORPGs at the same time?

No. In both games, logged-in time is growth. Zeus splits the competition on field-hunting efficiency, and Eclipse's Sanctuary grows with the clock. Split 24 hours between them and you get two half-accounts.

So this list is not "Eclipse next to Zeus". It is pick one MMORPG, then fill the time that game cannot use. The commute, a ten-minute lunch break, and the hours you are asleep. Only games that work in those three slots made the cut.

3 games to run alongside

1. Egg, Inc. — an idle farm that grows while the app is closed

  • Who it is for: anyone who wants progress without holding the phone.
  • Why it is here: 10 million-plus installs on Google Play under the idle search, from Auxbrain. The genre is the reason more than the number. It is a pure idle loop, so it never competes with an MMORPG for the same hour.
  • What to check: the offline earnings cap. That number sets how many times a day you need to open it. The full checklist is in September's free-to-play picks.

2. KickCat — a cowardly cat in a helmet kicks balls at dogs

  • Who it is for: someone who opens a game before bed and checks it in the morning. Twice a day is the ceiling.
  • Why it is here: the idle vault caps at 12 hours, so a check-in before work and one after fills the whole day. For someone holding an MMORPG in the evening, those are exactly the two slots left over.
  • First 10 minutes: a cowardly cat puts on a helmet and kicks with its eyes shut. Every enemy across 300 stages is a dog. A shiba and a schnauzer block the alley holding shields instead of weapons. Mid-stage, three skill cards appear and picking one changes the run. There are 27 skills and 24 balls.
  • The downside: the 12-hour cap cuts both ways. Open it once a day and whatever overflowed is gone. Free, with ads and in-app purchases.
  • Free-player feel: the gacha has a 100-pull pity, and gold for upgrades keeps coming from idle time and fights. Next to an MMORPG, this is about as much burden as a side game should carry.

3. Meowdoku — cat sudoku, three minutes a round

  • Who it is for: waiting on a dungeon queue, or sitting next to an auto-hunt with nothing for your hands to do.
  • Why it is here: on September 3 it was No. 1 on the Japanese App Store free chart, No. 3 in the US and No. 4 in Taiwan. The full four-country comparison is in why app charts differ by country.
  • What to check: it is a puzzle, so it does not idle. Instead a round is short enough to fit inside an MMORPG's waiting time exactly. It is not a game you run alongside, it is one you slot in.

So what should you install

  • If you sit at a PC for long stretches: Zeus, if it is available in your store. It is out now and has a PC client. Keep Meowdoku on the phone for one round while the hunt runs.
  • If login pressure puts you off: start Eclipse on the 10th. Use the five days before it to settle into an idle rhythm with Egg, Inc.
  • If ten minutes a day is all you have: do not start an MMORPG right now. Open KickCat morning and evening, and decide on Eclipse after its first week of reactions.

The 27 skills and 24 balls are in the game guide, and the dogs you fight are in the bestiary. It is on Google Play.

Zeus details come from ZDNet Korea, Herald Economy and Inven launch coverage plus PNN and SmartBiz reviews. Eclipse details come from ZDNet Korea, Etoday, Gametoc and Betanews. We have not played either MMORPG long-term ourselves.

FAQ

Which of Zeus and Eclipse is better for a free player

Nobody can say yet. Zeus has published its monthly-pass structure at 9,900 won. Eclipse has not launched, so its pricing is not public. The fair comparison is after Eclipse's first week, once its drop rates and package prices are out.

Can Eclipse be played on mobile only

Yes. It is PC and mobile cross-platform with up to two clients running at once. Start on mobile and continue on PC with the same character.

Will an idle game and an MMORPG together drain the phone

An idle game builds up while it is closed, so it does not need to stay open. Keep it shut while the MMORPG auto-hunts. The MMORPG is the one eating the battery.

Five days until Eclipse opens. Install one idle game tonight and the vault will have filled ten times by the time the servers go up on the 10th at noon.
